OUR BOARD

Albert E. Alejo, SJ

Is a lecturer at the Faculty of Social Sciences of the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. Paring Bert is engaged in anti-corruption, advocacy for indigenous people’s rights, creative writing, cultural research, indigenous philosophy, and political spirituality. He holds a PhD in Social Anthropology from the School of Oriental and African Studies from the University of London.

Zena B. Bernardo

is a diligent and passionate Filipina development worker with a strong commitment to various causes. She has played pivotal roles in impactful projects, including her positions as Program Manager for Food for Hungry Minds, Deputy Executive Director of Operation Smile – Philippines, and founder of NGO Bahay Amihan.

Atty. Dino S. de Leon

is a public interest lawyer and human rights advocate who is currently a partner at De Leon Arevalo Gonzales Law Offices. He is a member of the Free Legal Assistance Group and Junior Chamber International, Manila. He obtained his Juris Doctor Degree from De La Salle University Tanada-Diokno School of Law with a special certificate in Human Rights. He completed his Master of Laws in National Security Law in June 2023, with a certificate in International Human Rights, at Georgetown University Law Center, Washington D.C.

Karen S. Gomez-Dumpit

Is a Former Commissioner of the Commission on Human Rights of the Philippines (CHRP) from June 2015 to May 2022, boasts an impressive 32-year tenure in Philippine Government service, dedicating over 28 years to human rights advocacy. During her tenure, she played a key role in driving the passage and implementation of crucial laws including the Juvenile Justice Welfare Act, Anti-Death Penalty Law, International Humanitarian Law Bill, Anti-Torture Act, Human Security Act, Recognition & Reparation of Martial Law Victims, and legislation addressing Gender-based violence like the Safe Spaces Act.

Atty. Josef Leroi “Jojo” L. Garcia

is a human rights and criminal justice lawyer, who works along with Sen. Leila M. De Lima. He also worked as a political affairs lawyer under the Aquino administration and as an election lawyer from 2000 to 2006. Among his career milestones are the discovery of the election fraud committed by former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo in 2004, and working with the prosecution that led to the former president’s imprisonment. He also filed an ICC case against former President Duterte, for the crimes committed under the War on Drugs.

Atty. Ibarra “Barry” M. Gutierrez III

is a lawyer, policy expert, and communications professional with over two decades experience working in government and with civil society organizations. He holds economics and law degrees from the University of the Philippines, and a Masters in Public Service Law from New York University where he studied under a Fulbright scholarship. He is a former member of the House of Representatives, once serving as its Vice Chairperson of the Committee of Human Rights, and was the author of several landmark laws. He also served as Communications Director of the Office of Vice President Leni Robredo from 2017-2022.

Joselito B. Saracho

uses his journalist and artist backgrounds in pursuing his human rights advocacies and cultural activism. From 1994, Joel worked for ABS-CBN News Channel (ANC), the pioneering cable news channel in the Philippines, first as producer-writer to being its news manager until he resigned in 2008. Joel is currently COO of the League of Filipino Actors (AKTOR) on top of his functions as member of the Board of Trustees of HRPEC.
